2015 Farm Positions Available – 2/13/15 Application Deadline

For 2015, we are looking to fill two seasonal/part-time positions and 3 internships for the 2015 growing season. The positions (descriptions listed below) include:

2. Tiny Diner Rural Farm Assistant*
3. TD Farm Communications Intern
4. TD Farm Education Intern
5. TD Farm Production Intern

Position Descriptions

Position: Tiny Diner Farmers’ Market Manager
Hours: Part-time, 12hrs/week, Mid-May through Mid-October
Paid: Salary, DOE
Deadline: Friday February 13th, 5pm

Description
For its second year, the Tiny Diner restaurant and farm will host The Tiny Diner Farmers’ Market on Thursday evenings during the growing season. This small-scale farmers’ market, located within the Powderhorn Neighborhood at the Tiny Diner restaurant, seeks to promote access to local fresh produce and value-added products, local artwork, and provide sustainable producers with an outlet for their products. The Tiny Diner Market Manager is a part-time position beginning mid-May and runs through mid-October. This manager will be responsible for coordinating and staffing the Farmers’ Market throughout the season. The Market Manager will be supervised and supported by the Tiny Diner Farm Manager. 12hrs/week on average with a seasonal flow.

Qualifications
2-3 years of coordinator/organizer experience
Experience working with diverse communities
Dedicated to local food, farming, and food justice
Must have excellent customer service skills
Familiarity with the EBT/SNAP System
Ability to track and document farmer market sales, vendor info, and visitor inquiries
Awareness of food justice issues and a dedication to food sovereignty in the Twin Cities
Bilingual in Spanish, Hmong, Somali or other is a plus

Responsibilities
Set-up and supervise every TD Market, Thursdays from 5-8pm at the Tiny Diner, June- Oct
Organize market activities, music, events, and vendors for every market day
Implement the TD Market Guidelines and EBT Program
Seek out and organize new vendors for the 2015 and 2016 season
Implement “Stamp It” outreach and rewards throughout season
Coordinate market kick-off event and closing event
Speak and distribute materials about TD Farm and TD while at the Market
Manage a market intern
Cooperatively work with TD Farm Manager, TD@GF Manager, TDF Staff and volunteers
Attend Thursday meetings with the TD Farm Crew

Position: Communication Intern
Start Date: Spring/Summer, 3-month commitment (flexible)
Location: TD Farm, 3957 42nd Ave. S. Mpls, MN
Deadline: February 13th, 2015

The Tiny Diner Farm is seeking a Communications Intern to help solidify outreach from our farm-to-restaurant to communities in the Twin Cities. It is a unique opportunity to learn about and support urban farm-to-restaurant and re-skilling workshop strategies for whole community building. This internship is unpaid, 5-10hrs/wk, with credit hour possibilities.

Responsibilities
Understand and promote the mission of the TD Farm
Maintain Tiny Diner Farm and Farm-to-Restaurant social media sites
Take pictures and video of regular activities and special events at the Farm
Develop communication release protocol
Highlight farm workshops and events (weekly)
Write “Farm Focus” pieces (bi-weekly)
Cooperatively work with the Farm Manager and Farm Assistants on above projects

Learning Objectives
Understand outreach strategies that increase transparency between farm-to-table projects and diverse communities

Develop the ability to assess strengths and weaknesses of communication strategies and implementation methods

Hands-on grassroots and entrepreneurial experience to strengthen local food systems in the Twin Cities

Position: TD Farm Education Intern
Start Date: Spring/Summer, 3-month minimum commitment (flexible)
Location: Tiny Diner at 1024 East 38th Street and TD Farm at 3957 42nd Ave. S. Mpls, MN
Deadline: February 13th, 2015

Description
The Tiny Diner Farm is seeking a Farm-to-Restaurant Education Intern to help solidify education materials from our farm-to-restaurant to communities in the Twin Cities. It is a unique opportunity to learn about and support urban farm-to-restaurant and re-skilling workshop strategies for whole community building. This internship is unpaid, 5-10hrs/wk, with credit hour possibilities.

Responsibilities
Understand and promote the mission of the TD and Farm
Create educational material for TD visitors, weekly and monthly projects
Create educational material for TD Farm visitors
Work with Farm Manager and Farm Assistants to develop youth and family education materials/projects
Work with Farm Manager and TD Designer to create multi-lingual outreach materials and easy-to-use pamphlets/maps

Learning Objectives
Understand strategies that increase transparency between farm-to-table projects and diverse communities

Strengthen your ability to create educational materials that can be used inside place-based farms and businesses

Investigate creative ways to teach people about permaculture, food, and farming

Gain hands-on experience that can directly strengthen local food systems in the Twin Cities

Farm Production Intern
Time: Spring/Summer, 3-month minimum commitment (flexible)
Location: TD Farm 3957 42nd Ave. S. Mpls, MN 55406
Deadline: February 13th, 2015

Description
The Tiny Diner Farm is seeking a Farm Production Intern to join our farm crew and learn about small-scale urban food production. Into communities in the Twin Cities. It is a unique opportunity to learn about growing nutritious food for yourself and community, while supporting an urban farm-to-restaurant and re-skilling efforts. This internship is unpaid, 5-10hrs/wk, with credit hour possibilities.

Responsibilities
Understand and promote the mission of the TD and Farm
Assist with restaurant/pop-up stand harvests and planting
Work with Farm Manager and Farm Assistants to develop soil-building techniques, pollinator habitats, and intensive farm production
Assist with farm-to-restaurant production and farm stand set-up
Work with Farm Crew to create an abundance for the community members in the farm and restaurant neighborhoods

Learning Objectives
Understand strategies that increase transparency between farm-to-table projects and diverse communities

Strengthen your ability and confidence to grow food in small spaces with simple solutions

Research, design and implement a biodynamic/permculture/high-yield crop bed that you will take care of throughout the season

Gain hands-on experience that can directly strengthen local food systems in the Twin Cities
